25 June 2026 (Agroportal) – Agroportal republished the Vida Rural article on the new industrial applications for rosin developed at CeNTI under the RN21 Integrated Project, to add value to Natural Resin from Portuguese forests and reduce dependence on fossil materials.
Footwear and automotive
In footwear, research focuses on incorporating rosin derivatives into soles and adhesives with different biopolymer bases, to improve mechanical performance and durability. In the automotive sector, these derivatives are incorporated into thermoplastic biopolymers for injection-moulded interior parts, partially replacing up to 30% of synthetic resins.
A competitive position
Lorena Coelho, a researcher at CeNTI, stresses that the derivatives were tailored to each application, with equivalent or better performance, and that integrating these technologies into Portuguese industrial chains gives the country a distinctive position.
