Figueira da Foz, 27 September 2023 (Figueira na Hora) – Figueira na Hora reported on the public presentation of the RN21 Integrated Project, scheduled for 10 October at the facilities of United Resins – Produção de Resinas, S.A., a Natural Resin second-processing company based in Figueira da Foz.
The resin sector in an unprecedented consortium
Coordinated by CoLAB ForestWISE and funded by the PRR under Component 12 – Promotion of the Sustainable Bioeconomy, RN21 brings the Natural Resin sector together for the first time in an integrated research and innovation consortium. The Minister for the Environment and Climate Action, Duarte Cordeiro, is confirmed to attend the presentation.
Three pillars for the whole value chain
With an investment of more than 26 million euros, including around 17.5 million euros in grants, the project involves 37 entities and combines public and private investment, fostering collaboration between companies and research and development organisations.
An opportunity for the territory
Quoted by the newspaper, Carlos Fonseca, CTO of CoLAB ForestWISE, argues that investing in Portuguese Natural Resin is a unique opportunity for the country. The project aims to add value across the whole chain, from producers to market, through new technologies and products, and to increase national resin production, with benefits for forest management, wildfire risk reduction, rural development and territorial cohesion.
