Isna, Oleiros, 25 May 2023 (Reconquista) – The weekly newspaper Reconquista ran a feature on the pilot project under way in the parish of Isna, in the municipality of Oleiros, which could bring resin tapping back to a region with a long tradition in this activity.
A pilot project in the Isna pine forest
The trial is part of the RN21 Integrated Project and is being carried out by the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) and Raízes In, within the consortium coordinated by CoLAB ForestWISE. The aim is to assess the viability of resin tapping in the municipality’s maritime pine stands and to improve extraction techniques.
Traditional knowledge and innovation
The feature highlights the return of resin tappers to the Oleiros pine forest, in an initiative that combines the experience of those who once worked in resin tapping with innovation, creating new income opportunities for forest owners.
