8 July 2026 (Jornal T) – Jornal T, published by the Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association (ATP), interviewed CeNTI about the RN21 Integrated Project’s progress in replacing fossil-based additives and raw materials with rosin derivatives, a constituent of pine resin.

From the lab to industrial scale

The derivatives were incorporated directly into synthetic and bio-based fibres, at up to 30% of this natural component, and applied to cotton knits as colour promoters, mordants and finishing and laminating agents. Garment prototypes were developed with Tintex, HATA, CITEVE and United Resins.

Performance and environmental gains

In bio-polyamide fibres with 30% rosin derivative, bursting strength rose by 138% and antioxidant activity was around ten times higher. Life cycle assessments point to reductions of up to 57% in the carbon footprint of the fibres and up to 79% in water consumption.
