Coimbra, 16 January 2025 (ESAC – Polytechnic of Coimbra) – The Coimbra College of Agriculture, one of the institutions in the consortium, highlighted the RN21 Integrated Project and its ambition to give new strength to the Natural Resin sector in Portugal.

A raw material with export potential

The article recalls that in the 1970s Natural Resin was the country’s third most exported raw material and highlights its potential in the automotive, textile, footwear and food industries, from biodegradable packaging to lighter car components, more durable footwear and better colour fastness in textiles.

37 entities and 22 measures

Coordinated by CoLAB ForestWISE and funded by the PRR, the consortium brings together 37 entities, mainly in the North and Centre, including resin producers, first- and second-processing companies, higher education institutions, intermunicipal communities and forest associations. The work is organised into 22 measures across three pillars, with 2025 as the project’s final year.
