Salvaterra de Magos, 4 December 2024 (Notícias do Sorraia) – Notícias do Sorraia announced the presentation of the results of the resin tapping project carried out in plot 17 of the Escaroupim National Forest, at a session organised by ICNF at the Cais da Vala Building in Salvaterra de Magos.

Conservation and breeding of maritime pine

The project “Maritime Pine: Conservation and improvement of genetic resources”, coordinated by INIAV with ICNF, ISA, Centro PINUS and the Faculty of Sciences, carried out resin tapping trials on clones to identify the best individuals. One of the results is the submission of an elite maritime pine orchard to the National Catalogue of Basic Materials. According to the article, the resin production work gained new momentum under the PRR – Natural Resin RN21.

A forest with a research tradition

The Escaroupim National Forest covers 438 hectares and includes an arboretum created in 1953, with 126 species of eucalyptus. The session featured Paula Soares, from ISA, Rui Pombo, Regional Director for Nature Conservation and Forests of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, and Isabel Carrasquinho, from INIAV.
