Castelo Branco, 25 May 2023 (Reconquista) – The weekly newspaper Reconquista reported that the Recovery and Resilience Plan is making more than 33 million euros available to the resin sector, under Component 12 – Promotion of the Sustainable Bioeconomy.
A sector with a history in Beira Baixa
The article recalls the historical importance of resin in the region: around fifty years ago, the district of Castelo Branco produced one tenth of the resin delivered to distillation plants in Portugal.
The role of the RN21 Integrated Project
Part of this investment goes to the RN21 Integrated Project, coordinated by CoLAB ForestWISE, which brings the Natural Resin value chain together around three pillars: boosting national production, strengthening the sustainability of the processing industry and positively differentiating Natural Resin and its derivatives. In Oleiros, the project is testing the viability of resin tapping in a pine stand in the parish of Isna.
