Vila Pouca de Aguiar, 11 September 2024 (Agroportal) – Agroportal published the Lusa news agency report on the demonstration of new resin tapping techniques in a pine forest in Tresminas, Vila Pouca de Aguiar, within the RN21 Integrated Project.

How the closed system works

In the new method, resin flows into a closed plastic bag or container through a spout fitted into a hole drilled in the pine. Unlike open systems, it keeps out impurities and water and prevents the loss of volatile components, which add value to the raw material.

Costs and legislation

A closed bag with a spout can cost between 15 and 20 cents, compared with 3 to 4 cents for the traditional open bag. Adopting the new method still depends on changes to legislation, currently under review. The RN21 Integrated Project, coordinated by CoLAB ForestWISE, aims, among other goals, to improve the efficiency of resin collection.
