Isna, Oleiros, 19 May 2023 (Municipality of Oleiros) – The Municipality of Oleiros announced that a pine stand in the parish of Isna is serving as a laboratory to test the viability of resin tapping, an activity that thrived in the municipality until the early 1980s.

The return of a traditional craft

The session was attended by José Silva, a former resin tapper from Isna who left the trade in 1998 and expressed his pride in seeing renewed interest in it. For Miguel Marques, vice-mayor of Oleiros, the area still has former resin tappers, men and women, able to pass on the skill of tapping pines to new generations.

Preparing the ground

Before the trial, fuel was cleared from the study area. On 18 May, the first 60 of the 200 pines included in the project were tapped. The work is led by UTAD and Raízes In within the RN21 Integrated Project, which runs until 2025.
